Congratulations to Mike Davila, the Grand Prize Winner for the U.S. Drummer of Tomorrow Competition! Mike will now continue to the World Finals featuring the national Grand Prize Winners from each participating country. The World Final will take place at the 2012 Musik Messe Fair in Frankfurt, Germany. The Musik Messe Fair will be held March 21-24, 2012.
Four contestants (Byron, Michael, Brandon and Joseph) will be at the at the Juanita Field House Big Beat event in Kirkland, Washington (near Seattle) sponsored by Donn Bennett’s Drum Studio. The other four contestants (Stephen, Andrew, Rick and Alessio) will be at Hard Rock Live Big Beat in Hollywood, FL. sponsored by Resurrection Drums.
The Drummer of Tomorrow semifinalist performances will be judged by a group of celebrity artists and teachers. The contestants with the highest and the second highest score totals from each Big Beat location will advance to the USA Drummer of Tomorrow finals in California.
The Big Beat is a drumming event occurring simultaneously in 15 cities across North America. Each city will attempt to set a World Record for the most drummers playing simultaneously. The money raised through event entries will benefit local charities including Mr. Holland’s Opus Foundation.
Our internal judging panel (featuring Chris Pennie, Derico Watson and Mark Beckett) selected 15 Quarterfinalists from over five hundred submissions to visit Nashville, Tennessee to film their Quarterfinal entry. The 16th Quarterfinalists was the original entrant with the most popular votes — Andrew Merkle (rushequalslove).
